1969 Corvette – 427 – 4 Speed – For Sale – Wisconsin

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

This car is being offered by the seller priced for a quick sale.  The description is as was received from the seller.

“The car is a 427 / 390 HP car
4sp, air, power windows and locks, leather interior.
We have changed the brake master cyl, put new brake lines on car…all new.
New front calipers, I have the originals yet.
I have new chrome big block valve covers, air cleaner and decals, 427 emblems for hood, crossed flags for front and rear of car, and outside door handles.

The stingray emblems are in decent shape yet, the side venting gill chrome is all missing. I have 6 older ones for the car

Need a vacuum pod for the wiper doors.
Needs vacuum work, you can see the headlights are still up.
Side pipes are cracked, they painted them white over the chrome before I bought it.
All new emblems / parts still in boxes.
I found some used cone wheel covers for it last year.  It had the chev baby moons with it for some reason.
Bumpers had been rechromed before I bought it, they are back on the car.
BF Goodrich white letter tires, very good shape, like new, look nice on the car.
2 pictures of car below from when I first bought it 5 years ago.
The car has pretty much been sitting for the last 12 years.
Was repainted before I got it.
Has a couple of small nicks in the paint, 3 – 4.
Around 67,000 miles on car.
Chassis is in good solid shape, was undercoated when new, car came from southern Ohio.
Engine compartment looks … dusty dirty.
I figured for around $5000 … for interior, carpet, exhaust, and a few other things the car would be a very nice driver.

I think it is a nice looking car as is, but with the finishing touches it would be nice enough to show a bit.
Not a Barret Jackson car by any means.”

How to Locate Good Classic Dealers

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Good classic car dealers are hard to find. There are many classic cars for sale and many classic car dealers but a good quality car from a reputable dealer is rarer and rarer in the market place today. Some of the establishments I have visited have just reminded me of used car dealers. They just tell the prospective buyer what he wants to hear so he will make a purchase.

I have been told to leave some establishments when making inquires about whether the VIN numbers match the engine and transmission. Some of them even acted insulted because I wanted to check the numbers personally. When I have tried is when I have been asked to leave.
These are places that sell Camaros such as Z28 models or Tempo’s and Hemi’s or GTO’s. To buy an original production muscle car is getting harder and harder. This is due to the time lapse since they were made. The last real production muscle car was produced in 1974. Since this year is 2009, that makes the newest one over 35 years old. That is a lot of time for an engine to give out and the owner to replace it with an economical choice or a rear-end to sheer a pin and need to be replaced. All of this needs to be considered.

Just keep it in mind when you go looking. Ask questions, lots of questions and if you see hesitation or irritation in the face of the salesman, then beware a scam might be protruded on you. You all know that a completely original car with all matching numbers increases the value of a classic car. The seller should point out any known differences and if they do not then perhaps they are the type of person that would try to hide other details from you.

Not all classic car dealers are just used car dealers just a lot of them so buy with caution.

Magic Words Corvette For Sale

Monday, April 13th, 2009

Just the words “Corvette for sale” bring back so many memories. It is hard to decide which Corvette is my favorite. But undoubtedly, one of the earliest is of a banana yellow one.  A draftsman that worked for my father owned it.  A beautiful 1969 stingray that had the mako modification kit added on it.   I could never forget what looked like a menacing grin on from the front grill. It just looked mean. Along with the front modifications were the wheel-well flaring and the spoiler on the back.  This was the baddest ride this pre-teen had ever seen. To top off the looks, it had my favorite wheels, mags.

Back then I just listened to him when he described what he had done to make it go faster while my eyes just enjoyed that great piece of eye candy. He emphasized the engine and certain components that helped the performance.  I remember thinking why do those things? It doesn’t make it look any better. No one can see inside an engine. Yes, sooo naive was I!

I decided to learn more about why a high-rise cam with roller lifters meant so much to him.  I also found out that the great-looking side pipes had an actual performance function. In time, I learned to really appreciate his car and all he had done.

There are a lot of great looking cars out there but if the performance package is not there or not adjusted and tuned right, it will be like most show Harleys I know of.  They look great but need a truck to move because they are all show no go.

But that Corvette for sale was both show and go.

Antique Autos For Sale

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

Antique autos for sale is a sign that always gets my attention every time. Not only do I love old cars but also this sign is plural so I know there is more than one near each other. But the word antique is so vague one will never know what models and makes are there until you stop and look. The quest for American classic cars is never ending around here.

I am not usually disappointed but at times I am, but that happens in everything. I remember some years back traveling from St. Louis to Peoria to visit my mother on I55. I would see along the highway numerous signs reading just that antique cars for sale. Most of the time they were just old muscle cars for sale that have seen better days. My favorite place to visit was Country Classic Cars. This place was located just outside Staunton Illinois. They are on the east side of the highway up on the hill. There are about 100 cars in view of the drivers on the highway, which has caused a few close calls. I have had a few close calls there myself. I am not the only one looking at all the old cars.

They literally have hundreds of antique and classic cars, trucks and other items for sale. Inside one of their buildings are the finest selections they have that are protected from the weather. But unless one would stop they would never see them. The ones out in view of the highway are mostly in need of some type of repair.

The years of antique cars for sale are a wide range from 1929 to 2006. I do not consider the 2006 a classic car or an antique car but it is there but most of the vehicles are over 20 years old from almost every make and model. It is almost like stepping back in time. They have a Kaiser, a few old Willys not to mention the Packard but no Hudson’s.

To go back in time just follow the signs that read antique autos for sale and enjoy.
